(More customer reviews)My wife bought this for me for Christmas. I was looking for a watch with a rubber band and big numbers. The dial is easy to read and the little blue LED on the face that activates when you push the single button makes it easy to get to see in the dark. The white LED at the top of the watch (activate by double-tapping the button) is the killer feature. How many times have you fumbled for keys in the dark or tried to find a lightswitch? It's surprisingly bright. The periodic red flashing LED at the base of the watch face seems totally gratuitous, though.
I have pretty narrow wrists so I have to put the strap on the last notch to get it to fit right. It looks a little big on me but will probably look perfect on someone with normal sized wrists. I can't say anything to the durability yet but working great so far.

(More customer reviews)OK, I admit it, I am hooked. This review is virtually identical to the ones I wrote for the blue and silver versions of this watch. This watch is identical to those except for dial color, so I thought it fair to share the review.
There is nothing not to like about this watch. From the moment you take it out of the box you will know it is a quality timepiece. All parts are machined to fine tolerances. Most of it is brush polished so it will not show scratches as much, but part of the bezel has just enough fine polish to accent it's beauty and design. The watch has a solid feel and the heft of stainless steel so you know it can take some real punishment. The sapphire crystal is thick, solid, and crystal clear. The magnifying cyclops is underneath the crystal so there is no bump to mar the smooth surface of the crystal. The unidirectional rotating bezel has 120 clicks and rotates firmly with a very satisfying resistance. This Swiss Army Divemaster is rated to 500 meters WR, which is 300 meters more than most dive watches. It is one of the few watches you can feel comfortable with for real diving. The watch does NOT have an exhibition back. Of course, being a true diver, it has a screw-down crown.
The bracelet is made of solid stainless steel links connected with friction pins. It has solid end links. It has a diver's extension. It also has the capacity for minor length adjustments by movement of a small pin in the clasp. The clasp is a dependable deployant model with locking clasp. The metal of the deployant mechanism is heavy and solid, not thin stamped metal like that used in cheaper watches. The hands and the hour markers are coated with a substance that is nicely illuminated in the dark after exposure to light. The lume is quite nice. Much better than many other watches I have tried, though not quite up to the standards of the Seiko Monster. Finally, this watch keeps great time. What more would you expect from a Swiss Made quartz movement? The watch is comfortable, reasonably priced, built like a tank, yet sized just right for an average person, and looks great. These are, by far, among the best quartz watches I have ever had the pleasure of owning. As of today, I am still infatuated with these watches, and they compete well for wrist time with many of my best Swiss automatics.

If you order the watch from Webjeweller.com, it comes from Canada, and at least 100 dollars US less than anywhere else I looked.I had some problems receiving the watch. UPS lost it, but Webjeweller promptly sent out another one. After I got it, it was running too fast. I took it to an authorized service repair center (near me) and they fixed it at no cost. This is the first year of this model (automatic wind) and I expected some problems. It will only get more expensive if you wait. The watch itself is simply beautiful, without being gawdy, and the 3 year warranty is excellent for this class.

It is a discontinued timepiece and amazon is one of the few remaining places you can find it for a good price. I was a bit hesitant to buy the watch from an unauthorized dealer but after some thought I became confident in buying from amazon-they do, after all, have a reputation to uphold and provide a good warranty. The watch is engraved with the swiss product number (V.25162) and the complete packaging comes with a EAN (european bar #) and ASIN. Do not expect a serial number engraved on this watch, as it has been distributed on the european market. This is a really beautiful watch, heavyset 15mm thick case and you can tell its of the highest quality (top of the line swiss army). I contacted Victorinox directly regarding this watch on amazon and here is the dialogue:

It may quite possibly be the perfect diver watch. Its chunky with a great weight--but the cool thing it doesn't wear to big at 40mm. The gun metal PVD case and bezel is a great addition and really brings out the orange. The rubber band is very comfortable and it has a see through back which is not common on 500M diver watches. The lume is among the brightest I have seen. It rivals the Omega Seamaster. Pick one of these up (lots of colors to choose from) and you will not be disappointed.

Love the 6498 with the sub second by the 6 o'clock, by the way. Power reserve is longer than two full days, possibly around 55 hours and is the longest power reserve I've ever seen. Beautiful dial, thick and sturdy bracelet with safety clasp, and the beautiful exhibition case back to see the unitas movement. This watch goes with everything from a suit coat to a t-shirt and jeans. It really is an exceptional killer timepiece.

One unique feature with this watch is the second hand does not rotate when just keeping normal time. Took a little getting use to. I assume this will help extend battery life. The watch comes with a generic instruction manual for all Victorinox watches which is hard to understand. There is a manual availabe at the Victorinox web site just for the AirBoss line that is much better.
